Inovec is a leading manufacturer of scanning, optimization, and control systems for the forest products industry. The company has installed over 600 systems in mills around the world since 1979.
The combination of high technology scanning with computerized optimization and experienced machinery operators can increase lumber yield up to 15% from each log and enhance quality control, according to Inovec.
Inovec offers products for headrig carriages, edgers, trimmers, small log processing, cant production, and more.
Its WaneMaster(tm) edger optimizer-its installation at Gilkey Lumber Co. described in the accompanying article-can increase yield from 7% to 18%, according to Inovec.
The WaneMaster(tm) features laser profile scanning and is available to fit new or existing edgers. It features single or multiple board solutions for remanufacturing, random width for hardwood or shop, special hardwood grading rules, and unique product quality parameters to fit a mill's specific application.
The WaneMaster(tm) is designed to optimize hardwood flitches for maximum value. The operator inputs the grade of each face, and the laser scanning system measures the wane and sawn surfaces of each flitch. The WaneMaster(tm) determines the optimum sawing solution based on surface measure and NHLA-style cutting unit rules as customized by mill management.
The WaneMaster(tm) can optimize for single or multiple board solutions, considering random width or fixed width products. Multiple board solutions can be processed with three- or four-saw edgers or two-saw edgers that are equipped with Inovec's StripSave(tm) feature, which returns wide edgings-containing another board-to the edger for a second pass.
The WaneMaster(tm) installed at Gilkey Lumber Co. also included the "grade-edit" option that allows the operator to adjust the cut lines to isolate grade or defect areas within a board.
Inovec is headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, where its optimization systems are designed, manufactured, programmed and tested. Sales and service are provided through its home office and offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and through a world-wide network of authorized original equipment manufacturers and factory representatives. The company also operates a 24-hour factory support hotline.
